GMKtec's most powerful Mini PC tested: GMKtec EVO-X3 is more than simple AI PC

GMKtec revealed its most powerful Mini PC ever, the GMKtec EVO-X3, back in June. Powered by a 16-core AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU, 128 GB of  LPDRR5X-8000 memory, and a Radeon 8060S iGPU, the GMKtec EVO-X3 is targeting users who want to run AI locally. However, YouTuber ETA Prime shows that the GMKtec EVO-X3 is much more than a simple AI machine, as it can also handle 1440p AAA gaming without overheating.

Starting with some CPU benchmarks, the GMKtec EVO-X3’s Ryzen AI Max+ 395 running at 5.1 GHz scores 3,081 and 22,314 in Geekbench 6 single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. Unsurprisingly, the single-core result is 23% slower than the Apple M4 Max. Apple has increased this single-core lead with the latest M5 series chips.

The multi-core result, while relatively better than the single-core showing, still has the Apple M4 Max beating out the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 by 18%.

The iGPU benchmark is where the GMKtec EVO-X3 truly shines. The Radeon 8060S is AMD’s fastest iGPU, and that shows. ETA Prime’s 3DMark Time Spy Graphics benchmark has the Radeon 8060S beating even the desktop RTX 4060 by 10%. The 140 W max TDP is undoubtedly helping the Radeon 8060S here, as mobile GPUs are often severely constrained by the power envelope.

This GPU grunt also translates well into gaming. The GMKtec EVO-X3 proves to be a stellar Mini PC for gaming. The Mini PC plays AAA titles at 1440p without breaking a sweat. In Forza Horizon 6, for instance, the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 doesn’t even need any image reconstruction to hit 90+ FPS at 1440p/ultra.

While demanding titles like Black Myth Wukong and Crimson Desert do need FSR to get over 60 FPS at 1440p/high, this is still quite an impressive result for the GMKtec EVO-X3.

Finally, GMKtec seems to have paid special attention to the cooling system of the EVO-X3. ETA Prime only measured around 66 C while playing AAA games and a maximum 83 C while stress testing the CPU. The power draw of the Mini PC during gaming reportedly peaked at around 147 W.

So, the GMKtec EVO-X3 looks to be a beastly Mini PC. However, as you might’ve already guessed, this comes at a steep price. The GMKtec EVO-X3 currently costs $3,799.99 on Amazon.
