Unreleased mystery Mini PC with SteamOS and built-in display tested in AAA games

ETA Prime tests a lot of cool gadgets, including Mini PCs. This time, the YouTuber has tested what could be the coolest or quirkiest Mini PC to debut on the channel. The Mini PC in question is the Piston V, which dual-boots Bazzite/SteamOS and Windows and features a round touch-sensitive built-in display on the front of the device. ETA Prime reports that they don’t know who sent the Piston V Mini PC to them or any information about the OEM.

So, the Piston V could be a prototype of an unreleased Mini PC that might soon come to the market. We’ll have to wait and see what eventually becomes of the system.

What we don’t have to wait to see is the performance of the Piston V. The Mini PC runs an AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 APU with 10x Zen 5 CPU cores operating at 5.0 GHz, a Radeon 890M iGPU, and up to a 54 W TDP. The APU is paired with 32 GB of DDR5 memory and a 1 TB SSD.

ETA Prime shows that, when you boot into Bazzite, the Piston V Mini PC is configured to show system information like CPU and GPU usage on the built-in display. At the time of testing, this behavior was locked and couldn’t be changed. So, while the built-in display does show the game you are currently playing on the Mini PC, ETA Prime couldn’t configure the display to show game-specific information like an FPS counter.

Talking about gaming, the Piston V appears to be well-positioned for light AAA gaming. The Ryzen AI 9 365 with its Radeon 890M iGPU is a pretty capable APU, if you keep expectations in check.

In Spider-Man 2, for instance, ETA Prime measured an average of 75+ FPS at 1080p/high using FSR Frame Generation. This also remains true for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, where the average FPS is around 45 without any FSR and is in the 70s with FSR Frame Gen.

Similarly, in Cyberpunk 2077, the Piston V Mini PC has enough power to deliver a playable frame rate in the high 40s at 1080p resolution with the Steam Deck graphics profile. Enabling FSR Frame Gen pushes the performance up to 80 FPS.

All in all, the Piston V is a weird-looking Mini PC that has some serious potential. We hope to hear some more information about the device soon.
