Apple's iPhone 20 Pro is reportedly on track for a launch as the 20th anniversary iPhone in 2027, though in a slightly different way than expected.
In a new report, well-known Apple analyst Mark Gurman refutes recent claims by Jefferies that the all-glass anniversary iPhone has been cancelled for launch in 2027. According to his sources, the iPhone 20 Pro redesign is still on track to launch next year, however there will be changes to the initial plans.

Even Apple’s stock reacted negatively when Jefferies analyst Edison Lee warned a few hours ago that Apple had abandoned plans for an all-glass anniversary iPhone in 2027. Some Apple fans are likely to be disappointed that the plans for the iPhone 20 Pro redesign were apparently scrapped. However, Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman emphasized on August 11th that none of this is really true. His sources provided a somewhat more nuanced view of the developments in Apple’s research labs instead.

It is apparently true that a very ambitious plan from Apple’s Design Studio was scrapped early on because the initial chassis consisting primarily of two glass panels wasn’t suitable for mass production. Since then Apple is reportedly focusing on an evolution of the original idea by using a metal frame in the center to which the front and back glass panels with curved edges are attached. There are reportedly two prototypes, V73 and V74, which are presumably the successors to the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

On X, Mark explains a bit more about the possible reasons for the misinformation. Since new iPhones are already in the validation phase about a year before mass production, Jefferies' analyst likely searched the supply chain for traces of an all-glass iPhone and thus drew the wrong conclusions. In any case, Bloomberg expects Apple’s iPhone 20 Pro redesign to be unveiled as planned in September 2027. Whether it will be called the iPhone XX or iPhone 19 Pro remains unclear for now, though we consider the latter unlikely.
