GMKtec EVO-X3 Mini PC and SteamOS prove to be match made in heaven

ETA Prime recently tested the GMKtec’s most powerful Mini PC, the EVO-X3, in both synthetic and gaming workloads. With the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and 128 GB of RAM under the hood, the GMKtec EVO-X3 did exceedingly well. ETA Prime has now tested the Mini PC with SteamOS, giving us a look at the performance of the GMKtec EVO-X3 when used purely as a gaming PC.

SteamOS and GMKtec EVO-X3 go well together. We know that Linux-based operating systems often run games faster than Windows due to their tight resource usage. This is also the reason why software like RPCS3 run the best on Linux. So, it was pretty much a given that the GMKtec EVO-X3 would run quite well with SteamOS.

The Ryzen AI Max+ 395 with a max 140 W TDP really shines in AAA titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and so on. Thanks to the 16-core Zen 5 CPU, the Radeon 8060S iGPU, and the 96 GB of memory allocated to the APU, the GMKtec EVO-X3 Mini PC reportedly pushes AAA games above 60 FPS at 1440p with elevated settings.

In Cyberpunk 2077, ETA Prime shows that the GMKtec EVO-X3 can play the game near 80 FPS at 1440p with high settings and FSR “Quality”. This is a strong result when you consider that Cyberpunk 2077, while being an older title, is still a demanding one.

The GMKtec EVO-X3 also plays Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and Spider-Man 2 equally well. Horizon runs at 80+ FPS at 1440p with “Very High” settings and FSR set to “Quality” mode. GMKtec EVO-X3 can play Spider-Man 2, on average, at 85+ FPS at 1440p resolution with “Very High” graphics and FSR “Quality”.

So, it is quite clear the GMKtec EVO-X3 Mini PC with the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 is a beastly performer as far as Mini PCs are concerned. The Mini PC also stays quite cool.

However, the great performance and a big RAM buffer come at a great price. The GMKtec EVO-X3 costs a whopping $3,799.99. The Mini PC just doesn’t make sense at that price if you are looking for a gaming system, as you can find much more powerful gaming PCs for cheaper.
