Fujifilm was actually supposed to launch a brand-new interchangeable-lens system camera in early September. The launch of the long-awaited Fujifilm X-T6 is reportedly delayed, but the camera is expected to include a few exciting new features as a result.

Rumors suggested as early as June that the Fujifilm X-T5 ($1,999 on Amazon) would get a successor as early as September. Now, FujiRumors has learned from multiple sources that this launch event has been canceled. Fujifilm has reportedly not yet set a new launch date, so it is currently completely unclear when the X-T6 will hit the market.

While the official reason for this delay is unknown, according to FujiRumors, there are two main reasons why the launch cannot take place as planned. First, some components are reportedly in short supply, which is delaying production. And second, the software is reportedly not yet ready for the market. This primarily affects two new features – a completely new film simulation and an AI autofocus system that is supposed to enable far more reliable focus tracking. Fujifilm is reportedly revising the design and, most importantly, making the control dials on the top panel more comfortable to use.

Apart from that, rumors suggest that two hardware upgrades in particular are planned. First, Fujifilm is reportedly switching from the NP-W235 battery to the NP-W255, giving the camera a battery capacity of 2,550 mAh – 350 mAh, or 16 percent, more than the Fujifilm X-T5. And second, Fujifilm is reportedly incorporating the more modern X-Processor 6, which is expected to deliver higher performance. The premium mirrorless camera is expected to continue using a 40-megapixel X-Trans sensor in the APS-C format, but it is not yet known whether it will use the same sensor as its predecessor.
