Camera test of Motorola’s first full-size foldable —Is it as good as DxOMark says?

Motorola is launching its first foldable phone that opens along the long edge: the Razr Fold (currently around US$ 1,900 at lenovo.com). It aims to take on established flip phones from Samsung or Honor and, at least when it comes to cameras, do things a bit better.

And it seems to be succeeding quite well: DxOMark has already tested the device and awarded it the best camera score of any foldable to date.

Now we’ve also gotten our hands on this full-size foldable and were able to take a closer look at the camera. Can we confirm DxOMark’s verdict?

Is DxOMark right about the Razr Fold’s main camera?

Here’s a quote from our in-depth review that assesses the main camera with its Sony Lytia 828 sensor:

The main camera takes good pictures, but the sharpness isn’t quite on par with that of conventional high-end phones.

So, in terms of image quality, we don’t see the Razr Fold fully competing with conventional high-end phones like the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. 

Nevertheless, the main camera takes very nice photos, especially in low light. So we can definitely confirm that it’s one of the best main cameras among foldables.

Video capabilities

Recording 8K videos at 30 fps is no problem. However, you’ll need to keep a steady hand—the image stabilizer seems a bit overwhelmed here. 

In 4K and 60 fps, on the other hand, the Motorola Razr Fold takes really good videos and, thanks to its large screen, also offers plenty of preview space.

Flexibility and good zoom capabilities

Flexibility isn’t lacking either: after all, there’s a periscope telephoto camera and an ultra-wide-angle camera on the back. 

In the zoom test, the trio of cameras delivers good results, and we’re particularly impressed by the AI post-processing at extreme zoom levels, e.g. 50x or 100x magnification, which looks much less artificial than on earlier models.

Our verdict on the Razr Fold’s cameras

We can therefore confirm that the Razr Fold features very good cameras. It can’t quite keep up with the absolute top-tier phones in the camera category.
