Motorola has equipped its first book-style foldable, the Razr Fold (currently around US$ 1,900 at lenovo.com), with a 6,000-mAh battery—one of the highest capacities in the foldable category. In the Wi-Fi web browsing test, the device achieved 18 hours and 22 minutes.
By comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, with its 4,400 mAh battery, manages only 14.3 hours. Even the Honor Magic V6, with its 6,660 mAh battery, lags behind at 16.2 hours. Motorola supports wired charging at up to 80 watts. Wireless charging is not available.
Larger battery, clear lead
So, the 18.4 hours represent the best result among the devices tested, but what does that mean in real-world scenarios?
Anyone who uses the Motorola Razr Fold in everyday life—for example, while streaming video on the 8.1-inch OLED display or multitasking with two apps simultaneously—will noticeably benefit from fewer charging breaks. Other foldables sometimes need to be plugged in much sooner.
For frequent travelers, this means that with the Razr Fold you can make it through a longer workday even if you are in areas with fewer plugs like an airport or in a hotel lobby.
Idle power consumption remains moderate
The Razr Fold consumes between 1.1 and 1.7 watts in standby mode. The Galaxy Z Fold7 is more energy-efficient at 0.63 watts, but this doesn’t make up for its smaller battery: a 22 percent shorter runtime speaks for itself.
More capacity, more weight
The large battery takes its toll: the device weighs in at 243 grams, which is slightly more than most competitors. Anyone who carries the smartphone in their pants pocket every day might feel the difference, but the foldable isn’t really heavy.
Motorola proves that a massive battery and a portable foldable design don’t have to be mutually exclusive. The battery life advantage over the competition is measurable and relevant in everyday use, and the extra weight is tolerable.
