TagBatt with built-in AirTag promises up to 44% longer battery life for cameras
While camera straps and tripod quick-release plates with a compartment for an Apple AirTag are already available, Falcam aims to offer an even more convenient way to locate a camera with the TagBatt. That’s because the battery has a built-in AirTag and can be tracked worldwide using Apple’s "Find My" app.
This is not only handy for locating lost cameras but also for finding misplaced batteries. To this end, Falcam has also built in a speaker that allows a high-frequency sound to be played via the "Find My" app. The battery is compatible with all cameras that use the Canon LP-E6 or the Sony NP-FZ100, including the Sony A7r V, the Sony A7C II, and the Sony ZV-E1. The Falcam TagBatt is also said to outperform Sony’s and Canon's original battery in two additional areas.
First, the battery can be charged not only in the camera and the charger, but also directly via a USB-C cable. And second, Falcam advertises a capacity of 17.43 Wh or 2,600 mAh, while Sony’s original battery offers "only" 16.4 Wh or 2,280 mAh, and Canon only advertises 1,800 mAh for the LP-E6. This should allow the Falcam battery to provide about 6 to 44 percent longer battery life. Despite its higher capacity, the TagBatt is relatively lightweight, weighing 80 grams.
Pricing and availability
The Falcam TagBatt is now available in the manufacturer’s online store. A single battery costs $70 for Sony or $65 for Canon, if you buy two, you get the third one for free. This makes the TagBatt more affordable than Sony’s NP-FZ100 ($88 on Amazon). Shipping is free worldwide for orders of $79 or more. However, prices do not include import fees.
