Galaxy S27 Ultra: Samsung confirms triple camera. Galaxy S27 Pro to offer disappointing telephoto according to report

Just a few days ago, Ice Universe reiterated that the dual telephoto camera in the Galaxy S26 Ultra (available here on Amazon US) will be replaced by a single 5x telephoto camera in about 6 months. According to earlier statements by the often-accurate leaker, a new 200-megapixel sensor behind the main camera is also expected, which will apparently be responsible for all the digital zoom up to an equivalent focal length of about 115mm in the future.
Galaxy S27 Ultra with 5x periscope telephoto
Now Samsung has apparently confirmed this for the first time, at least according to a report by the South Korean industry publication Etnews, which states that Samsung has shared this information with its camera component suppliers. According to the report, all four Galaxy S27 models will feature a triple-camera setup, including the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra. The report also mentions that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will once again feature a 5x periscope telephoto lens.
Galaxy S27 Pro with 12 megapixel 3x telefoto
The Galaxy S27 Pro, on the other hand, is said to only offer a 12-megapixel 3x telephoto, so quite similar to the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ which may disappoint many Samsung fans who would have expected a more high-end solution for the pro model. According to the report, the Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature a 200-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle and a 50-megapixel 5x periscope telephoto. The Galaxy S27 Pro will apparently also get a 200-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens (not periscope). Samsung Electronics is mentioned as a supplier, but Sony is not.
Saving costs is a priority for Samsung
The reasons behind these developments will come as little surprise to Samsung insiders. Once again, the goal is apparently to cut production costs, in part by reducing the number of components required, many of which have seen significant price increases in recent months. The decision to reduce the number of cameras to three in the Galaxy S27 Ultra was therefore apparently not made to improve camera quality. However, hardly anyone is likely to miss the 1/3.94-inch 10-megapixel sensor in the current 3x telephoto of the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
