Transparent Godox C100 compact camera goes on sale for $45
The Godox C100 was announced in early July, and the compact camera is now available internationally well. Amazon is already accepting orders for $44.90 with free shipping. Since Godox lists the camera in China for the equivalent of $25, an import can be cheaper.
The Godox C100 serves two purposes. First, the device can function as an external light meter to determine the correct exposure. This is useful, for example, when using an analog camera without a built-in light meter, such as the Leica M4. And second, the C100 is also a compact camera that, at under $50, competes directly with popular models like the Kodak Charmera.
Godox does not include a conventional display. Instead, a transparent viewing window serves as the viewfinder. Details about the battery, exposure parameters when used as a light meter, and frame lines in a format of your choice are displayed directly on this window. As the hands-on videos embedded below show, it is nearly impossible to compose photos precisely, since the visible frame changes depending on how far the camera is held from the eye.
The camera takes photos with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. Videos can be recorded at the same resolution, but only at 26 frames per second. The image quality is significantly better than that of the Kodak Charmera, but the low resolution and very narrow dynamic range make it clear that the Godox C100 is clearly positioned as a toy camera.
