Pixel Watch 5: Google teaser video highlights design aspect compared to Apple and Samsung

On August 12, a team led by South African entertainer Trevor Noah will unveil a wide range of Pixel hardware. In addition to the Pixel 11 generation and new accessories such as the Pixel Tag trackers, the Pixel Watch 5 is likely to be the main focus for many Google fans, even though the design has changed very little—if at all—compared to its predecessor, the Pixel Watch 4.

However, a first teaser video for the Google smartwatch now emphasizes that this classic design was an important criterion for Google. Despite its health, fitness, and sleep tracking capabilities, the Pixel Watch, according to Google, still has the decency to look like a classic watch. With this statement, the U.S. company is likely taking a direct jab at its competitors in the smartwatch industry—particularly Apple and Samsung, which have established entirely different designs with their Apple Watches and Galaxy Watches.

Artificial intelligence is also a key focus for Google; the Pixel Watch 5 is now being promoted with “Gemini Intelligence.” Earlier leaks have already revealed that, unlike the Galaxy Watch9 (available here on Amazon US), Google won’t be using the new Snapdragon Wear Elite for this Pixel Watch generation. However, battery, RAM, and storage continue to grow, which is likely important for AI performance. Software features, such as sleep tracking, will also be further improved, as leaks have shown.
