Garmin delivers new update to popular smartwatches with battery life estimate improvements

Garmin has released another update for the Instinct 3 series. To recap, the company issued Beta Version 15.17 at the end of July. As we discussed at the time, the update focused on addressing an issue affecting the interval training activity.

Now, Garmin has transitioned beta development to Beta Version 15.18. Rolling out globally, Beta Version 15.18 is the eighth v15.xx build that Garmin has offered to Beta Program participants, starting with Beta Version 15.08 over a month ago. Reportedly, Beta Version 15.18 should have now reached all participating smartwatches. If that is not so in your case, then you can trigger Beta Version 15.18 using the following path:

Menu > System > Software Update > Check For Updates

In a forum post, Garmin states that Beta Version 15.18 should resolve only a single bug. Specifically, the new beta is said to fix incorrect battery life estimates when using an Instinct 3, Instinct E or Instinct Crossover AMOLED (curr. $649 on Amazon) in Expedition mode. At this stage, it remains unclear when Garmin will transition v15.xx beta development to its stable software branch. Please see Garmin's forum post for more details.
