Garmin releases new update for high-end smartwatches with a dozen changes and improvements

Garmin has brought another round of changes and improvements to its current high-end smartwatches, including the Fenix 8 Pro (curr. $1,199 on Amazon). To recap, the company issued Beta Version 23.19 at the end of July.

Despite being the sixth v23.xx update in this beta cycle, Garmin managed to find another dozen bugs that were in need of being addressed. Now, it has skipped ahead a few revision numbers by releasing Beta Version 23.22 to those who have enrolled their Enduro 3, Fenix 8, Quatix 8 or Fenix 8 Pro on the Garmin Beta Program.

In a forum post, Garmin clarifies that only around 20% of Beta Program participants should have received a notification to download Beta Version 23.22. In the meantime, one can request the update manually by navigating through the main menu on your smartwatch to System, Software Update and then to 'Check for Updates'.

Beta Version 23.22 contains twelve changes from v23.19, eleven of which being bug fixes. Additionally, the new update adds a prompt to inform Fenix 8 series owners that they cannot change their watch face during boat mode. In short, v23.22 aims to resolve multiple issues that caused the Fenix 8 and its peers to reset when running older software. The full changelog between v23.19 and v23.22 is as follows:

• Adds a prompt to inform users watch face selection during boat mode will only show once boat mode is disabled.
• Fixes an issue that causes the device to crash during an incident detection.
• Fixes an issue that causes the morning and evening report to not time out.
• Fixes an issue that could cause the device to reset after receiving an audio spectator message.
• Fixes an issue that could cause the device to reset when viewing the morning report.
• Fixes an issue that could result in pace/speed dropouts, especially during interval training.
• Fixes an issue where an audio spectator message could fail to play while music is paused.
• Fixes an issue where other voice output could fail to sound after receiving an audio spectator message.
• Fixes an issue where silent mode could fail to be honoured during the activity focus mode.
• Fixes an issue where the device will reboot sporadically.
• Fixes an issue where the user cannot change or customise the watch face style on Quatix.
• Fixes an issue where the volume slider in music controls bounces around and becomes unresponsive.
