Exclusive: Samsung tests the Galaxy S27 series with an unreleased Snapdragon chipset across three regions

Samsung Electronics is validating the Galaxy S27 series against Qualcomm's SM8975, which is set to be officially named Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, according to a screenshot from a Qualcomm project portal that we obtained.

The screenshot shows three separate project entries under the SM8975 codename: SS_SM8975_GS27_AP, SS_SM8975_GS27_KOR, and SS_SM8975_GS27_VZW, covering Asia-Pacific, Korea, and Verizon builds. All three use the "Snapdragon_Premium_High_2026" software distribution, which is Qualcomm's internal designation for its upcoming flagship chipsets.

Running three parallel regional and carrier builds at this stage is consistent with typical pre-launch validation. It usually means the hardware has moved past initial silicon bring-up and into carrier-specific RF and software testing, a stage Samsung reaches once a device is fairly far along internally. The Verizon entry points to U.S. carrier certification work already underway.

Qualcomm is set to formally unveil the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 alongside the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 at its Snapdragon Summit, scheduled for September 22–24 in Hawaii. Samsung's Galaxy S series has historically launched a few months after Qualcomm's own rollout, with Unpacked and retail availability usually landing in the first quarter of the following year.
