Powerful AMD-powered GMKtec mini PC launches with capable Radeon iGPU

GMKtec has refreshed its AMD Strix Halo mini PC, and the new variant, the EVO-X1 Pro, brings a familiar set of specs but with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 470. Compared to the non-Pro model, the new system has a slightly better boost clock, but the peak TDP still stands at 65W.

The company highlights that at 35W mode, this AMD mini PC can handle heavy workloads without getting too loud. There are two M.2 slots that can each hold up to an 8TB SSD, for a total storage capacity of 16TB. As for the port configuration, it stays the same as the non-Pro EVO-X1, which is as follows:

• 2x 2.5GbE
• 1x 3.5mm audio

Of course, wireless connectivity has seen an upgrade. The new EVO-X1 Pro features WiFi 7, a notable upgrade over WiFi 6 found in the non-Pro mini PC, and there's Bluetooth 5.4.

Thanks to the Radeon 890M, the mini PC can handle most AAA games with respectable frame rates at the 1080p resolution. For those who might need a bit more GPU power, there's a USB4 and OCuLink port. These two bring expanded eGPU support (Minisforum DEG2 dock curr. $239.99 on Amazon).

Other highlights of the mini PC included a compact chassis, a capable NPU, and triple-display output support. GMKtec launched the EVO-X1 Pro in the global market with 64GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and the discounted starting price is $1,599.99. A $20 extra discount can be secured with the X1PL20, and it's unclear whether the company will offer the system in higher memory configurations.
