Intel Xeon E5-2680

The Intel Xeon E5-2680 is a server-grade processor of the Sandy Bridge EP product family. It first saw the light of day in 2012. This Xeon has 8 cores (16 threads) running at 2.7 GHz to 3.5 GHz but no GPU of its own.

The chip features 20 MB of L3 cache and a DDR3-1600 memory controller that will accept up to 384 GB of ECC-enabled RAM. It also has forty PCI-Express 3 lanes at its disposal for connecting graphics cards, storage mediums and other devices.

You can easily replace this CPU with something else considering it uses Intel's LGA2011 socket interface.

Performance

The average E5-2680 in our database is in the same league as the Core i5-8500T, as far as multi-thread benchmark scores are concerned, making the Xeon more than good enough for most day-to-day activities as of mid 2021.

Power consumption

This Xeon series processor has a default TDP (also known as the long-term power limit) of 130 W. Xeon E5-2680 is built with a very old, as of late 2022, 32 nm Intel process for terribly low energy efficiency.
