More details and images of the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 have emerged online ahead of the device's official release. Based on earlier rumours, DJI will launch its next handheld camera before the end of the month, likely with an optional Creator Combo in tow.

DJI will unveil a third-gen hand-held mini camera later in October 2023, according to the latest leaked campaign assets. The official-looking branded posters are depicted as spilling the new Osmo-series tagline as well as the Pocket 3's main upgrades, special features and launch date. They include a new kind of inbuilt screen, a premium sensor and Stereo Recording for the upcoming vlogging gadget.

According to a new report, Apple is set to make numerous upgrades to its next smaller Pro model next year. While the iPhone 16 Pro is rumoured to be slightly larger than the current iPhone 15 Pro, this will coincide with the adoption of Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, a new 48 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and the 5x periscope sensor from the iPhone 15 Pro Max, among other changes.

Canon has just launched what it claims is the “widest auto focus zoom lens ever made for a full frame camera”, the RF 10-20mm F4L IS STM. It is a non-fisheye (aka rectilinear) lens which provides zero distortion with straight lines right to the frame edges, making it the ideal lens for architectural and landscape photography. The compact 570 g lens can be pre-ordered for US$2,299 and will be available in November.

The first photos shot using Google's new Ultra HDR image format have been published online. Available to try out for the first time in Android 14 with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, the Ultra HDR image format adds an HDR gain map to a standard JPG image, which creates problems with incompatible systems for now.

Specifications for DJI's next Pocket camera have emerged online. To be sold as the DJI Osmo Pocket 3, the camera will sport a 1-inch sensor, a rotating viewfinder display and support for the 10-bit D-Log M colour mode.

The I’m Back Film is a conversion kit that allows any 35 mm film camera to capture digital images, by placing a 20 MP Sony MFT sensor where the film would normally go, powered by a base unit that attaches to the bottom of the camera like a battery grip. In four days, the project will launch its Kickstarter campaign, where backers can order the complete kit.

Google may have brought manual camera controls to its stock camera app, but it limits their usage to just the Pixel 8 Pro. The Nikon Rumors website has confirmed prior rumours about the launch of a new Nikon NIKKOR Z 600mm f/6.3 PF lens, likely to take place on or around October 10. It is said to be a relatively lightweight lens for wildlife and sports photography, featuring Nikon’s Phase Fresnel lens element which improves sharpness while keeping size and weight down.

Despite Sony's claims, it seems that the Xperia 5 V can only match its predecessor when it comes to camera quality. Worse still, the Xperia 5 IV has the edge in zoomed-in shots thanks to its dedicated telephoto camera.

Accessory maker SANDMARC has launched the iPhone Microscope Lens. The add-on lens provides 40x magnification (or 200x on the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s 5x tele lens) for capturing stunning ultra-closeup images, while still being extremely pocketable. It features an in-built ring LED to prevent shadows, and includes an iPhone case (12 and up) for US$130.

XDA Developers has determined that the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro both contain upgraded primary camera sensors. Unfortunately, it appears that the pair have missed out on the rumoured ISOCELL GN2. Instead, Google may be using the same 50 MP camera found in last year's Vivo X80 Pro.

SIGMA has just announced the new 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN, touted as the world’s smallest, lightest ultra-wide APS-C zoom lens for the L-Mount, Sony E-mount and Fujifilm X-Mount. It has also announced development of the new full-frame 70-200mm F2.8 DG DN OS sports lens. The former will be available on October 26, and the latter in December this year.

After 7 years, Leica has launched the successor to its Sofort instant camera, the Sofort 2. The Sofort 2 is a hybrid camera – a 5 MP digital camera that can selectively print from its own memory or from a smartphone or other camera, via the Leica FOTOS app. It will be available from November 9, for US$389 or €379.

Google is bringing improved face unlock support to its Pixel smartphones, starting with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. While the pair lack the advanced hardware of the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, the new Tensor G3 chipset apparently has the capabilities necessary to open Android's BiometricPrompt API to their front-facing cameras.

Fresh rumours based on posts on Chinese platform Weibo suggest that the upgraded ‘P’ version of the Leica M11 will be launched in late October. This follows previous ones from June suggesting the M11-P will be launched by the end of this year. Leica’s P versions feature small upgrades and design changes for street photographers.

The newly launched Instax Pal is a tiny, palm-sized camera without screen or viewfinder, and a playful design aimed at younger customers. Blackmagic Design has launched its first full-frame camera, the Cinema Camera 6K, in a portable form factor. This is also its first L-mount camera, enabling use of lenses from Leica, Panasonic and Sigma. After equipping its Ultra models with 10x zoom lenses starting with the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Samsung finally looks set to eschew its long-range zoom hardware on the Galaxy S24 Ultra in exchange for a new, powerful 5x zoom lens.

The Redmi Note 13 series has entered the final days of pre-launch teasers. Fuji Rumors has received word from trusted sources that Fujifilm is going to release a camera this month under its Instax range of instant cameras. Alongside the GFX100 II, Fujifilm at today’s X Summit event has launched three new GF lenses for its GFX medium format lineup – a 50 mm f/1.7 portrait lens, and two tilt-shift ones at 30 mm and 110 mm Macro for landscape, architectural and commercial photography. Oppo and Sony have now outlined that the latter's LYTIA camera sensors will be headed to the former's next flagship smartphones. Fujifilm in its X Summit event today has launched the GFX100-II, the successor to the company’s flagship medium-format mirrorless camera. It features a faster 102 MP sensor, AI enabled subject-detect AF, 8-stop IBIS, a 9.44m-dot EVF with tilt-adapter support and up to 8K/30P 10-bit 4:2:2 ProRes video capture. Notably, the launch price is US$7499, which is US$2500 less than the first-gen GFX100.

Reports from trusted sources have revealed that the replacement for the ultra-popular Fujifilm X100V will feature a new or updated lens, although the specifics of that update are unclear. This follows a previous report that the new camera will be arriving in early 2024.

Kandao has just launched the QooCam 3, a 360° camera directly competing with the Insta360 X3 and GoPro Max but with a considerably larger 1/1.55” sensors than either, as well as a wider lens aperture of f1.6. DJI appears to be in the final stages of developing a new set of compact drones. Not only has the company prepared the Mini 4 Pro, but it also seems that it has developed the Mini 4, likely a cheaper alternative to its Pro counterpart.

Polaroid has just launched the I-2, a premium analog instant camera with manual controls and high-quality components, geared for serious photography. The I-2 features a sharper, high-quality lens and LiDAR for continuous autofocus. It is now available for US$599.

GoPro has confirmed plans to replace the GoPro Max, a 360 degree camera that the company has been selling since 2019. According to the company, the 360-degree camera will eventually arrive as the GoPro MAX 2.0.
