Vivo is slated to launch a top-end Ultra version of its latest X100 flagship Android smartphone soon. Now, a high-level executive with the OEM claims that it - or a device with its rumored code-name of Thanos, to be more exact - has imaging technology of such power that it can be considered more of a pro camera that happens to have smartphone functions rather than the other way around.

Companies have used the "real camera with smartphone on it" trope to hype their latest flagships before (to deleterious effect on occasion) - however, the allegedly upcoming X100 Ultra has the best chance of living up to this hype, according to the vice president of Vivo's product division Huang Tao, anyway.

The executive had recently taken a break from championing the new X Fold3 series on Weibo to claim that the OEM's impending super-flagship is actually just too Thanos for its own good, packed as it is with technology that makes it "no exaggeration to say we have made a pro camera that can make calls".

That assertion might refer to the extra-premium periscope zoom said to accompany one of Sony's latest and largest sensors for smartphones on the back of the Ultra, thereby possibly setting it up to surpass even its own Zeiss-branded Pro sibling in the mobile device camera stakes.

Then again, the claim might prove a little ironic, as the X100 Ultra is also projected to become Vivo's first satellite smartphone on its debut.
