Vivo tipped to launch new Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 smartphone with slowest charging of recent memory
The ability to combine the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor with specs such as class-leading, fast-charging batteries is a testament to just how far mid-range smartphones have come in the last few years. However, it seems a new device from Vivo is all set to fall short of this new standard later in 2024.
The OnePlus Nord CE 4, for example, has the ability to pair the 7 Gen 3 with the same SuperVOOC 100W wired charging specs as its flagship counterpart, thereby raising expectations that the supposedly upcoming OPPO K12 can do no less. Then again, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro would still be ahead at 125W - as it would be compared to another smartphone set to launch with the same SoC, according to the latest rumors.
The Vivo S18 launched with the 7 Gen 3 and 80W FlashCharge - as will its 2024 successor, according to noted leaker Digital Chat Station. The handset has allegedly appeared on the 3C database as the V2364A with this generationally stagnant charging standard, and also with no mention of other upgrades such as a larger battery to date.
The S18 debuted in China at the end of 2023, but is now available globally as the V30 5G through channels such as Amazon.in, starting at INR 31,600 (~$379) right now. It will be interesting to see if the "S19" can grab the OEM's latest developments in Aura Light flash technology for portrait shots for its launch, at least.
