All owners of a Chinese Vivo X100 Pro can look foward to the new test version of OriginOS, number 14.0.14.6, which brings important new features for the camera. As screenshots of the detailed changelog (via @TRX5800X, see below) show, Vivo now provides the option of creating selfie videos in 4K resolution, something that Samsung flagships have been able to do for years, as well as other Chinese devices from Xiaomi and Oppo, such as the Xiaomi 14 Pro or the Oppo Find X7 Ultra.
4K60 selfie video and better portrait shots
At last, the days of below-average 1080p selfie videos on Chinese smartphone flagships appear to be over. The fact that Vivo is delivering this feature via an update shows that the competitive pressure in this regard is now also increasing in China. In addition to various other improvements, the (test) update also promises even better bokeh effects in portrait shots as well as bug fixes for Bluetooth connections and higher power consumption in standby mode.
Youtuber Leszek Lesner recently tried out the update on his LL Techview channel (see below) and found out that users can seamlessly switch between the front and rear cameras in 4K30 while recording, but this does not (yet) work in 4K60. Now that the Vivo X100 Pro is also available as a global version (with FuntouchOS instead of OriginOS), the question naturally arises as to whether the global models will also receive this update. We suspect so, but there is no indication of this yet.
