The Brose brand, as a manufacturer of e-bike motors, will certainly be familiar to attentive readers. Brose (only) acts as a motor manufacturer and does not offer its own e-bikes, but various Brose motors are used by various e-bike manufacturers such as MAG Bikes or Hercules.
In a recent press release, Brose announced a new version of the Brose S Mag. It is unlikely that customers will be able to easily identify bikes with the new motor - if in doubt, customers are advised to ask the manufacturer or dealer directly. Whether manufacturers will advertise the use of the new motor models is still unclear.
The new Brose S Mag, just like other motors not specifically named, is designed to benefit from an optimized drive belt and improved transmission, thus resulting in a considerably longer service life. Brose advertises that intensive endurance tests were carried out in the Harz Mountains in Germany, during which over 50,000 kilometers and over a million meters of altitude were covered.
The latest modifications to the motors are also intended to make them more resistant to water ingress, as water is likely to be one of the main problems in high-quality engines over time. There are also said to have been improvements in terms of software and electronics. In the press release, Brose openly admits to having had problems with premature motor failures after the market launch in 2018, which were confirmed by user reports.
