A report from September of last year suggested that the Sony Xperia 1 VI would launch right after the Galaxy S24 series. Well, it seems that the report was true, as @InsiderSony has leaked what seems to be marketing material for the flagship. It sheds light on the rear camera configuration and suggests an imminent launch.

Update February 3: The image used in the "leak" shows an Xperia 1 V and is not a marketing image of the expected Mark VI model as originally reported. We apologise for the mistake. However, the supposed camera information is sourced from well-known Xperia leaker ZACKBUKS.

Original story:

There have been a couple of leaks revolving around the Sony Xperia 1 VI. One from September last year hinted that the smartphone will debut a month after the Samsung Galaxy S24 series (pre-order S24 Ultra on Amazon). Well, Samsung has already unrolled the curtains on its new flagship lineup this month, and we’ve started to get detailed leaks on Sony’s flagship. So, the September leak appears to be on track.

Getting back to the latest leak on the Xperia 1 VI, it’s about the rear camera setup of the smartphone. As what seems to be a marketing image shows, the back of the upcoming Sony camera smartphone will feature three 48 MP sensors. All three are Exmor T for mobile, a new image sensor with a two-layer Transistor Pixel. To compare, the predecessor (available on Amazon) had one 48 Exmor T for mobile sensor with two 12 MP cameras on the back.

The camera configuration leak of the Sony Xperia 1 VI also shared the details of each sensor. One of the three Exmor T for mobile sensors is a 1/1.4-inch unit with a 1.12 μm pixel size and a large aperture of f/1.4. It also has full-pixel dual-PD autofocus and can offer 2x optical zoom.

Next, the Sony Exmor T for mobile sensor is a 1/2.7-inch unit with Sony’s 2x2 On-Chip Lens (OCL) tech. This tech aims to offer improved sensitivity, capture resolution, dynamic range, and speed. The leak suggests that this camera sensor of Xperia 1 VI has an ultra-wide angle lens with 14-18 mm focal length.

As for the last sensor, it is an Exmor T for mobile with the same size as the previous unit. It also has 2x2 OCL, but it’s a telephoto sensor that can offer 3x optical zoom and 6x sensor crop zoom. Check the tweet embedded below for more info on the sensors. The leaker also shared a poster that hints Sony will launch the Xperia 1 VI at the MWC 2024 event scheduled for 26 February.
