The Lenovo IdeaPad 5 (15ABA7) has been discounted down to $500 at Walmart. The result of the 19.3% price cut is a machine that, with a 4.6/5 user rating, offers very good value for money thanks to its powerful Ryzen 7 5825U, long battery life, and a good port selection. The ports include two Type-A, two Type-C with DisplayPort and Power Delivery, one HDMI 1.4b, a full-sized SD card slot, and one 3.5 mm audio jack.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 5 15ABA7 is an affordable business/productivity laptop that is currently even cheaper thanks to a substantial $120 discount at Walmart. The machine brings an 8-core Ryzen 7 5825U CPU with an integrated Radeon RX Vega 8 GPU, 16 GB of DDR4 memory, and 512 GB of storage. With a 15.6-inch FHD display and a 57 Wh battery, the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 packs all the goodies one would expect from an everyday workhorse (via slickdeals).

While we haven’t reviewed the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 (15ABA7), we did get to check out the IdeaPad 3 15ABA7. The laptop came with a Ryzen 5 5625U and a 300 nits IPS panel with limited coverage of the sRGB and DCI-P3 gamut, just like the IdeaPad 5 on sale.

As we mentioned in our IdeaPad 3 review, the 15.6-inch display reaches the brightness target of 300 nits while delivering a 1,074:1 contrast ratio. Since the IdeaPad 5 on offer features a similar panel, the display should hold up fine for everything except color-sensitive workloads.

Moreover, the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 with a Ryzen 7 5825U should also deliver plenty of performance for handling any routine tasks. Per our analysis, the Ryzen 7 5825U offers multi-core performance around the Core i7-1360P level with single-core performance on par with the Ryzen 7 7735U.

Finally, we noted in our IdeaPad 3 15ABA7 (Available on Amazon) review that Lenovo’s machine delivers the most runtime-per-watt hour in our WLAN test which enables the small 45 Wh battery pack to last for 9 hours and 44 minutes. Since the IdeaPad 5 on sale features a substantially bigger 57 Wh cell, we can expect the battery life to be noticeably better. This is exactly the case as LaptopMedia's IdeaPad 5 review measured 11.5 hours of endurance in their web browsing test.

All in all, if you are in need of an everyday machine with long battery life and ample performance without breaking the bank, the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 for $499 presents an excellent value proposition.
