DJI has now lifted the lid on the Avata 2, its fourth product release of the week after the RS 4, RS 4 Pro and Focus Pro during its 'Focus on the Vision' event. As pre-release rumours suggested, the Avata 2 builds on its predecessor in various areas, not least with improved camera hardware and DJI's O4 video transmission technology.
Specifically, the Avata 2 has a 1/1.3-inch camera sensor that outputs at 12 MP with a 155° ultra-wide-angle FoV and 4K/60 FPS HDR video support. Moreover, the new drone integrates the 10-bit D-Log M colour profile, among other videography features. Furthermore, DJI's O4 video transmission system provides a 13 km maximum transmission range and 60 Mbps, which are 3 km and 10 Mbps improvements on the Avata, respectively.
On top of that, the Avata 2 can perform flip, roll and 180° drift manoeuvres via a button press on the RC Motion 3, which previously required a dual-stick FPV controller. Also, DJI has included 46 GB of built-in storage and has reduced propeller noise to 81 dB, which it remarks is 'similar to' the Air 3. The Avata 2 delivers 23 minute flight times too, a 5-minute increase on its predecessor.
At launch, DJI will offer the Avata 2 in two variants and not three as expected. For some reason, the company states the drone itself will 'temporarily not be promoted upon launch', adding that its launch date will be announced later. Nonetheless, the drone is available to reserve for £429 in the UK, $489 in the US and €489 in the Eurozone. Meanwhile, DJI has priced its combo packages as follows:
- DJI Avata 2 Fly More Combo (single battery) - £879/€999/$999
