Alongside the GFX100 II, Fujifilm at today’s X Summit event has launched three new GF lenses for its GFX medium format lineup – a 50 mm f/1.7 portrait lens, and two tilt-shift ones at 30 mm and 110 mm Macro for landscape, architectural and commercial photography. All three lenses will be available in late September. It has also announced two upcoming lenses as part of its development roadmap for medium format lenses.

Google is now distributing version 9.0 of its camera app. Still restricted to Pixel devices, Google Camera 9.0 makes various UI changes from Google Camera 8.9 but is only available on Android 14.

Oppo and Sony have now outlined that the latter's LYTIA camera sensors will be headed to the former's next flagship smartphones. Reputedly, the Oppo Find N3 will be the company's first smartphone to ship with a LYTIA camera sensor, with the LYTIA LYT800 chosen on account of its double-stacked pixel structure.

Fujifilm in its X Summit event today has launched the GFX100-II, the successor to the company’s flagship medium-format mirrorless camera. It features a faster 102 MP sensor, AI enabled subject-detect AF, 8-stop IBIS, a 9.44m-dot EVF with tilt-adapter support and up to 8K/30P 10-bit 4:2:2 ProRes video capture. Notably, the launch price is US$7499, which is US$2500 less than the first-gen GFX100.

Reports from trusted sources have revealed that the replacement for the ultra-popular Fujifilm X100V will feature a new or updated lens, although the specifics of that update are unclear. This follows a previous report that the new camera will be arriving in early 2024.

DJI appears to be in the final stages of developing a new set of compact drones. Not only has the company prepared the Mini 4 Pro, but it also seems that it has developed the Mini 4, likely a cheaper alternative to its Pro counterpart.

Polaroid has just launched the I-2, a premium analog instant camera with manual controls and high-quality components, geared for serious photography. The I-2 features a sharper, high-quality lens and LiDAR for continuous autofocus. It is now available for US$599.

GoPro has confirmed plans to replace the GoPro Max, a 360 degree camera that the company has been selling since 2019. According to the company, the 360-degree camera will eventually arrive as the GoPro MAX 2.0.

GoPro has announced that its Quik mobile app for video and photo editing, will soon be available as a desktop application for those with a GoPro subscription. The application will be released for Mac on November 1 and for Windows in Summer 2024.

GoPro has just launched the Hero 12 Black for pre-order at US$399.99, with shipping starting on September 13. New features include HDR in videos and photos, improved video stabilization, audio recording from bluetooth earbuds and mics, and 2x longer continuous recording. Launched alongside it is the Max Lens Mod 2.0 for the Hero 12, with an ultra-wide 177° FOV.

Sony has launched the ILX-LR1, a stripped-down ultra-lightweight full-frame camera specifically for industrial drone surveying and photogrammetry. With no viewfinder, screen or battery, and only minimal controls on the back, it is designed to be controlled via Sony’s Camera Remote SDK. The ILX-LR1 costs US$2,950 and is only available through professional B2B distributors.

Retail packaging for the DJI Mini 4 Pro has leaked online, reportedly less than two weeks before the drone's release. Not only does the packaging confirm various specifications, but it also showcases the Mini 3 Pro replacement for the first time.

Nikon has just released firmware updates for the Z8 and Z9, its two premium full-frame mirrorless cameras. While the Z9 has received minor bug fixes, the Z8 has received a number of changes addressing users' issues with overheating warnings and unexpected battery drain, among other fixes.

Panasonic plans to flesh out its line-up of S series L-mount lenses, with at least four new lenses confirmed on the latest roadmap. Of the four lenses in question, perhaps the most tantalising is a 100-500 mm super telephoto lens — a niche not currently served by the Lumix line-up.

Canon has generated quite a din thanks to a new patent filing detailing a built-in tilting EVF on what looks like an EOS R camera body. The new design seems to be a more compact iteration of what we've seen in camcorders in days gone.

A few days ago, reports started popping up of Nikon Z8 strap lugs simply resigning from their duties and falling off the camera for no reason. Now, Nikon has responded to the issue, instructing distributors to test the strap lugs by tugging on them before sale. While this may seem a bit excessive, Nikon is also reportedly testing recalled units for the same problem.

Recent Nikon certification documentation indicates that the Japanese camera maker plans to release one more camera before the end of 2023. This time, it appears to be a retro-styled full-frame mirrorless body or an update to its popular Z6 II. Although specifications are as yet unknown, the rumoured price of between US$2,000 and US$2,500 is tantalising.

Perhaps the inclusion of a USB Type-C port was simply an excuse for Sony to ship its mid-range A6700 APS-C mirrorless camera with no charging hardware, since the camera maker has done just that. A6700 owners will need to go out and buy not only an extra battery, but a whole other charger, if they want to charge their camera and use it at the same time.

Rumour has it that Sony is slated to release two new mirrorless cameras within the next two months. Along with an updated A7C II, expected to arrive with the A7 IV's 33-MP BSI CMOS sensor, Sony will allegedly also launch the A7C R as a high-resolution version of its video-focussed A7C compact full-frame camera.

Panasonic's impressive Lumix S5 full-frame L-mount mirrorless camera is on sale on Amazon for 30% off with a kit lens or 35% off for the body only. The Lumix S5 is basically a baby Lumix S1H and acquits itself well as a video camera, thanks to a 24-MP CMOS full-frame sensor, five-axis IBIS, 10-bit 4K 60p video, and excellent ergonomics.

The DJI Air 3 has arrived following months of speculation. Available from US$1,099 with an RC-N2 remote controller, the DJI Air 3 has a pair of 48 MP cameras and can last up to 46 minutes on a single charge, among other features.
