Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max beats Google Pixel 9 Pro XL in DxOMark's selfie tests
The iPhone 16 Pro Max has secured the top position in DxOMark's selfie ranking. It has achieved an overall selfie score of 151, the same as the Honor Magic 6 Pro and higher than the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL. The team notes the front camera of the Apple flagship can offer a wide dynamic range and accurate exposure in shots.
DxOMark has also found the autofocus to be reliable, and the team notes that they have noticed the depth of field to be reasonably wide. In the tests, the iPhone 16 Pro Max offered a high level of detail in both the photo and video modes with the front camera, with the faces being properly highlighted across different shooting distances.
However, DxOMark notes that there are noticeably higher levels of noise in selfie photos and videos when compared to the Honor Magic 6 Pro. The Pixel 9 Pro XL has also done a better job than the iPhone 16 Pro Max in handling noise, but Apple's new flagship is still a bit better than the iPhone 15 Pro Max in this regard.
Moreover, in the tests, DxOMark noticed occasional sharpness differences between the video frames while moving. This was one of the issues that were present in the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and it seems that Apple hasn't yet addressed it on its newest flagship.
