Fresh leaks have surfaced, indicating that the Canon EOS R6 Mark III is expected to make its debut in the first quarter of 2025. That's not all, though - leaked specifications give us a peek into what could be a decent upgrade to the EOS R6 Mark II (currently $1,999 on Amazon, down from its $2,499 MSRP), which was released in November 2022. The new camera, registered under DS126941, is rumored to feature a 24-megapixel LC1720 sensor.
A DIGIC Accelerator processor will support 8.5-stop collaborative image stabilization, which is paired with an advanced focus system similar to the EOS R5 II. Other leaked features include a 14-bit RAW electronic shutter for 30fps continuous shooting, with a readout speed of 1/180s, as well as neural network-based noise reduction and high-resolution magnification.
For video, the camera reportedly supports XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S recording in 4K120p and 6K oversampled C4K (Oversampled C4K refers to capturing video at a higher resolution (like 6K) and then downscaling it to 4K, resulting in sharper and more detailed footage). It will also allow for 6K30p and 4K60p Cinema RAW Light recording, which could be pretty useful for cinematographers. Dual-band Wi-Fi is expected to be present as well.
If the leaked specs hold true, the Canon EOS R6 Mark III could set a new benchmark in the mid-range mirrorless market, especially with its advanced video capabilities like 6K oversampled C4K and Cinema RAW Light support. The company also released the EOS R5 Mark II earlier in July this year, alongside the EOS R1.
