CheckMag | Vivo X200 Pro: Early testers are impressed by the Zeiss camera, even in comparison with the Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 16 Pro
After Vivo’s launch event in China, Weibo, in particular, has been flooded with new information about the Vivo X200 series. Three models will be introduced this year: the Vivo X200, Vivo X200 Pro Mini and Vivo X200 Pro. In an interview with Vivo executives, the Vivo X200 Ultra has already been confirmed for 2025, which will presumably sport the new Vivo V4 ISP.
On the subject of image processors, a few technical details regarding the Vivo X200 emerged only after the launch. For instance, only the Vivo X200 Pro is equipped with the Vivo V3+ chip found in the X100 Ultra, whilst the Vivo X200 and X200 Pro Mini come with just the Vivo V2. The larger Pro model also stands out positively with its USB port, being the only one with USB 3 support. The other two models have to make do with USB 2 speeds. It is probably known by now that only the Vivo X200 Pro has an optimised version of the 200MP ISOCELL HP9 sensor for telephoto cameras, also found in the Vivo X100 Ultra.

Plenty of remarkable sample photos taken with the Vivo X200 Pro available online
Those interested in seeing what the Vivo X200 Pro’s cameras are capable of, especially the telephoto lens, can use the hashtag #china in a telephoto lens# on Weibo to find many test shots from the Middle Kingdom, some of which are simply phenomenal. We have picked the four images above to give you a taste. The link should also work even if you don’t have a Weibo account. On X (formerly Twitter), there are also a few early owners of the X200 Pro posting photos taken in Beijing, such as Ben Geskin and his photographer Nicole. Here are a few examples to showcase the Vivo X200 Pro’s night photography capabilities:
Xiaomi’s flagships with Leica camera systems aren’t the only phones known for delivering great telemacro shots; Vivo has similarly given their X200 Pro a macro-enabled telephoto camera, as demonstrated by these images provided by Ben Geskin:
Early hands-on preview after 24 hours
Just one day after the launch event, two YouTubers have already posted their early impressions and showcased the Vivo X200 Pro’s cameras in action. For example, Ben Sin confirmed in his initial hands-on that Vivo managed to deliver upgraded video quality as well as other meaningful improvements like 135mm portrait shots and 10-Bit LOG video. Overall, he praised the cameras’ fast shutter speed, which enables the phone to capture sharp images even when a subject is in motion. His video also provides early photo comparisons with competing devices, such as the iPhone 16 Pro Max (available here on Amazon).
The YouTube channel TechTablets has published a detailed video comparing the cameras on the X200 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro and the Galaxy S24 Ultra. You can find both videos embedded below. TechTablets concluded that the X200 Pro’s Zeiss cameras mostly deliver better results than those on the Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 16 Pro, though there are a few outliers, such as selfies or, in some cases, portrait shots. The Vivo seems to further solidify its lead particularly in zoom and low-light performance. However, video recording remains an area in need of optimisation. For instance, there is some noticeable shakiness in test videos captured using the X200 Pro’s ultrawide lens.
Vivo X200 Pro versus Apple iPhone 16 Pro
In a series of tweets, Ben Geskin offered a direct photo comparison between the Vivo X200 Pro (left) and Apple iPhone 16 Pro (right). There is definitely a noticeable trend here, but we'll leave it up to you to decide:
