Panasonic unveils 4K HC-VX3 and 2K HC-V900 camcorders with 24x optical zoom, 5-axis image stabilization, 5.1-channel microphone
Panasonic has announced two new consumer camcorders for 2024 - the 4K HC-VX3 and the 2K HC-V900. The camcorders allow families to easily record school events, summer trips, and other events with ease due to the 24x optical zoom lens with a fast aperture of f/1.8 to 4.0 coupled with 5-axis Hybrid O.I.S.+, which combines electronic and optical image stabilization for stable images even at maximum zoom.
Camcorders provide a long zoom range in a small package that DSLRs cannot. For example, a f/4.0 300mm 4/3rds lens is almost 23 cm (9 in.) long.
Both cameras use a 1/2.5-inch sensor that requires only 1.5 lux of light (0.5 lux in night mode). During video recording, the 4K HC-VX3 sensor has 8.29-effective megapixels while the 2K HC-V900 sensor has 6.17-effective megapixels. During still photography, both sensors have 8.29-effective megapixels. Still images can be taken during filming and reviewed on the 3-inch, 1.84-megapixel capacitive LCD touchscreen.
The camcorders are designed for ease-of-use, with iA mode providing automatic control of focus with face detection, exposure with HDR imaging, and sound levels with 5.1-channel Dolby Audio. The camcorders start up in one second by flipping open the 3-inch LCD display. The computer software can automatically create edited clips, and the smartphone app can prepare clips and images for upload to social networks.
The 4K HC-VX3 measures 68 × 77 × 158 mm (2.68 x 3.03 x 6.22 inches) and weighs 520g (18.3 ounces) with the included battery pack attached. The 2K HC-V900 measures 68 × 77 × 141 mm (2.68 x 3.03 x 5.55 inches) and weighs 478 grams (16.9 ounces) with the included battery pack attached. Both models can be charged using an external USB-C power bank as well as a standard AC power supply. The camcorders also have built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi in addition to USB-C connectivity.
The HC-VX3 has an MSRP of $899.99, and the HC-V900 has an MSRP of $699.99. Both camcorders will be available at the end of November for purchase, including at the Panasonic Amazon store.

The optical image stabilizer has HYBRID O.I.S., featuring 5-Axis correction with the Ball O.I.S. System for added smoothness to reduce the blur caused by camera shake during zooming. The Active Contrast optimizes the contrast under minimal lighting conditions, capturing enhanced images with clarity.
To meet the latest standards, both HC-VX3 and HC-V900 come with USB-C terminal, remote control port, and an LCD with higher resolution and electrostatic touchscreen which all improve the operability from the previous models (VX1 and V800 which were released in 2018). Moreover, HC-VX3 is equipped with Timestamp recordability and Audio LINE-IN which will increase the usage in professional scenarios.
