Sennheiser Profile Wireless debuts as modular multi-use wireless microphone for content creators
Sennheiser touts the Profile Wireless as the ultimate all-in-one audio recording solution for content creators. It consists of a central "bar" with slots for 1 of its 2 transmitters in a position that turns the whole apparatus into a traditional interview-style microphone, made all the more like one with the addition of a rectangular wind-screen.
The bar also has the threads necessary to connect it to a tripod for desktop use in that mode - and, moreover, also acts as the accessory's charger. Take it apart, however, and the Profile Wireless becomes a hands-free lavalier like many others.
Its transmitters can send 24-bit audio to the same receiver via a 2.4GHz connection over a distance of up to 245 meters (m, or ~804 feet) away from the receiver, or 150m (~492 feet) if someone is in the way of their line of sight.
Despite its innovative build - and potential for brand recognition - the Profile Wireless has its drawbacks. The lack of Bluetooth means the receiver needs to be physically connected to the video recorder in use at all times. In addition, the transmitters give the impression of being much more chunky than something like the Hollyland Lark M2.
Then again, Sennheiser ships the Profile Wireless as a kit with everything required to address those issues, clothing-friendly magnets, a 3.5mm jack coiled cable for cameras and adapters for both USB-C and Lightning ports included - which are right-angled to boot and, therefore, potentially handy for other devices too.
The Sennheiser Profile Wireless has been announced with an RRP of $299 and is already listed on sites such as Amazon ahead of its planned late 2024 to early 2025 release.
