The Fairphone 5 has arrived and is already available to order. The list of changes between the Fairphone 4 and Fairphone 5 is extensive, including various performance upgrades and superior camera hardware. Arguably, the biggest improvment is the device's outstanding software support, which stretches into the start of the 2030s.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro remain a few weeks away, with Google rumoured to be lining up an October launch for both smartphones. Sony has released a new firmware update for the Xperia 1 V, its first Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship. Rolling out first in China as 67.0.F.1.197, the update introduces display refresh customisation options, improved Bluetooth connectivity and bug fixes, among other changes.

Qualcomm has revamped its handheld gaming console SoC offering with the new Snapdragon G Series. The Snapdragon G Series is now comprised of three tiers — the G1 Gen 1, G2 Gen 1, and the G3x Gen 2, which is an upgrade over last year's G3x Gen 1 used in the Razer Edge 5G. According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2's 8-core Kryo CPU offers a 30% performance gain while the Adreno A32 GPU offers a 2x improvement over the previous generation.

OnePlus' latest Android smartphone the Ace 2 Pro is completely out of stock following its initial release in China. It has taken in the equivalent of at least US$82.8 million during the event, and took under five minutes to do so, according to the OEM's figures. The Ace 2 Pro should be back on its native market's shelves soon, though.

It appears that Sony is preparing to launch a new 5G smartphone. Potentially, the smartphone in question could be the Xperia 5 V, which is claimed to be on track for a late summer reveal.
