ASUS ROG Phone 8 Ultimate to launch with 24 GB RAM and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset
Another ASUS ROG Phone 8 model has appeared on Geekbench, nearly two months after the series' last appearance on the same benchmarking platform. To recap, the AI2401_A surfaced in mid-September running Android 14 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and 16 GB of RAM. As we discussed at the time, AI2401_A seemed to be the ROG Phone 8 because of its RAM configuration.
By contrast, the AI2401_D has 24 GB of RAM, making it a candidate for a more premium alternative to the regular ROG Phone 8. Based on ASUS' recent nomenclature, this device could eventually arrive as the ROG Phone 8 Ultimate. On the one hand, equipping a ROG Phone 8 Ultimate with 24 GB of RAM only matches ASUS' peers like Realme and the GT5 Pro. On the other hand, it would represent an 8 GB of RAM increase over the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate.
Nonetheless, the AI2401_D falls short of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 reference device that we tested last month. Specifically, the unreleased device scored 2,235 in Geekbench 6.2.0 single-core and 7,098 in the corresponding multi-core benchmark. In other words, the AI2401_D only matches the AI2401_A in this regard. As a result, the former scores about 4% less than Qualcomm's reference device in single-core work and 5.3% in Geekbench's multi-core benchmark. Still, the ROG Phone 8 Ultimate is faster than the Realme GT5 Pro and OnePlus 12, but not the Xiaomi 14.
