The MediaTek Dimensity 8300 has been officially unveiled for premium smartphones. It features a tri-cluster Arm V9 CPU, an Arm Mali-G615 MC6 GPU, a 780 APU and LPDDR5X 8533 memory. It will debut later this year alongside the Redmi K70.

MediaTek has officially lifted the covers off its newest upper-mid-range SoC for high-end phones: the Dimensity 8300. Recent Geekbench listings gave us a rough idea about the SoC's innards, which have now been officially confirmed. The company went further and announced the Dimensity 8300 Ultra, which will debut alongside a Redmi K70 series smartphone later this year. Other devices will follow suit later.

Under the hood, the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 packs a tri-cluster CPU with one Cortex-A715 CPU at the helm (3.35 GHz). Three Cortex-A715 cores (3.2 GHz) and four Cortex-A510 (2.2 GHz) populate the remaining clusters. MediaTek claims it is 20% faster than its predecessor (Dimensity 8200) while being 30% more power efficient. One can partially attribute this to the chip being manufactured on TSMC's "second generation" 4 nm process node, which is likely N3E.

As highlighted earlier, the Dimensity 8300 uses an Arm Mali-G615 MC6 GPU. It is clocked at 1,400 MHz and offers an impressive 60% performance uplift over its predecessor with the added bonus of 55% power efficiency. Its support for high-speed LPDDR5X 8533 memory, the high clock speed, and MediaTek's new "Star Speed Engine" make the GPU a formidable competitor. Support for UFS 4.0 storage is the proverbial cherry on top.

Not wanting to miss out on the AI hype, MediaTek has thrown in an inconspicuously named 780 APU, which is 3.3x faster than its predecessor. It can run LLMs with up to 10 billion parameters natively, which is a commendable feat. The new 14-bit HDR-ISP Imagiq 980 ISP can capture 4K 60 FPS HDR videos and leverage the onboard NPU for noise reduction, bokeh and other tasks.

The Dimensity 8300's ISP can handle one 320 MP camera sensor or three 32 MP lenses at the same time. Other Dimensity 8300 specs include support for SA and NSA networks (no mmWave radio), Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, GPS, GLONASS, NavIC, BeiDOU, and QZSS. It can power up to a 180 Hz FHD+ or a 120 Hz QHD+ display. MediaTek also mentions compatibility with "dual displays"; precisely what it means remains unclear. Perhaps it has something to do with foldables.
