MediaTek is now tipped to launch a mid-range counterpart for its new Dimensity 9400 flagship processor for mobile devices soon. Its most prominent upgrade thus far might also be its most power-efficient, thereby possibly making for better battery life in next-gen mid-tier devices. Then again, the 8400 might stay the same as its predecessor in some respects.

We hailed the Poco X6 Pro (currently available at $479.99 on Amazon) as an Android smartphone of considerable upgrades in terms of performance compared to its predecessor thanks to its Dimensity 8300-series silicon. Now, it seems its successor might be at least as worthwhile a processor.

Digital Chat Station claims to be in a position to announce in advance that the 8400 will debut 1 of MediaTek's latest ARM cores: the Cortex-A725. It is a mid-range counterpart to the X925 found in the new top-end Dimensity 9400, which may or may not have made the new flagship more power-efficient with its inclusion.

Regardless, it might get to be exclusive to the 8400 on its launch. The A725 is now thought to help propel the SoC upward through benchmark rankings until it sits between Qualcomm's ex-flagship the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and its forebear the 8 Gen 2 thus far.

On the other hand, the 8400 is also now predicted to launch as a chipset based on TSMC's 4 nanometer (nm) architecture, just like its own previous generation.
