More MediaTek SoCs for Galaxy phones on cards as chipmaker supposedly tries to lure Samsung with lower prices
We may see more MediaTek chips pop up in future budget Galaxy smartphones as a new rumor suggests that MediaTek is exclusively offering Samsung lucrative prices for its chips. The report comes to us courtesy of Tech_Reve on X who alleged that the chipmaker has “offered special pricing exclusively for Samsung.”
MediaTek’s purported offer is a big deal since an SoC is one of the most expensive components in a budget smartphone. So with reduced chip prices, Samsung could make its budget phones even cheaper. However, it is not only Samsung who will benefit from the deal if it goes through.
Samsung is the second-biggest smartphone maker in the world. The company shipped more than 226 million phones in 2023 according to Statista. Budget and mid-range devices comprise a massive piece of the 226+ million shipped units. Naturally, MediaTek could gain a lot from the transaction if it manages to get a deal with Samsung.
Additionally, if the deal does go through, Qualcomm will have a lot of worry about as not only is MediaTek bringing the heat in the flagship department with Dimensity 9300 currently and the Dimensity 9400 on the horizon, but the Taiwanese giant will also have a strong foothold in the budget segment thanks to Samsung.
That said, until we get official confirmation from MediaTek or Samsung, take the information presented here with a grain of salt.
There are rumors that Samsung's budget lineup may expand its use of MediaTek processors, as MediaTek has recently offered special pricing exclusively for Samsung.
