Samsung has decided to roll out a few camera-specific features via new app updates. While the wait for One UI 6 continues for many devices, Samsung's new camera features are not tied to its Android 14-based update. Instead, they sit within Camera Assistant and Expert Raw, which have now reached versions 2.0.00.0 and 1.0.05.4, respectively.
For some reason, Samsung has not detailed the latter's major change in the app's changelog. Specifically, the company mentions a vague 'Update on the supported model (Galaxy S20 Ultra, N20 Ultra, Z Fold2)'. However, SamMobile has noticed that Expert Raw 1.0.05.4 contains a Neutral Density (ND) filter option. Please note that this is a software-based solution rather than something tied to first or third-party ND filters.
As the screenshots below show, Samsung's new ND filter mode can be varied between 2 and 1,000 in strength in multiples of two. It remains to be seen what these numbers relate to, though. Meanwhile, the latest version of Camera Assistant adds a 'Distortion Correct' option, a feature that should automatically straighten lines distorted by perspective or optics.
Moreover, Samsung has renamed 'optical quality crop zoom' to '2x crop zoom shortcut' for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra (curr. US$1,079.99 on Amazon). Please see Samsung's Galaxy Store listing for other minor changes, such as the placement of 'Capture speed' within Camera settings under Advanced intelligence options.
