Core i7-1065G7 Ice Lake can run Doom at 1080p and Destiny 2 at 720p... sort of

With some heavy tweaking and field-of-view reductions, Doom and Destiny 2: Shadowkeep can run at a locked 30 FPS in some scenarios. Still, we recommend at least a GeForce MX150 if you intend to play such intensive titles regularly.

The Apple MacBook Pro 13 doesn't offer any innovations, but it's still a very good subnotebook with a lot of power

The Apple MacBook Pro 13 continues to impress as a great subnotebook in 2019, even if it's just a cautious model update. Nevertheless, it's likely to be the optimal mobile companion for many users.

Microsoft makes the new Surface Laptop 3 repairable for its enterprise customers

The first generations of the Surface Laptops were good laptops, but they had some drawbacks. One of them was that it was nearly impossible to repair these devices, as Microsoft used to glue the chassis shut. With the new Surface Laptop 3, Microsoft will now improve the repairability of its laptops to make them more attractive for enterprise customers.

Currently testing: Lenovo IdeaPad S540 15-inch - A great all-rounder with one weakness

The 15-inch variant of the IdeaPad S540 from Lenovo is new in our test. The all-rounder and entry-level gaming notebook arrives in a high-quality aluminum case and is able to convince in many areas, such as the display. Unfortunately, it also suffers from a significant weakness, which could have been avoided.

These include the bright, high-contrast display and the fast SSD, for example. However, it also shows a significant weakness.

Loud and proud. The MSI GL75 checks all the right boxes for a 2019 mid-range gaming laptop. Features like a high-refresh rate display and a per-key RGB backlit keyboard are nice additions, but fan noise and coil whine spoil an otherwise adequate package.

While we aren't expecting to see any laptops with both the Core i7-8565U CPU and GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q GPU, we could argue that the Core i7-8565U or any other ULV Core i7 CPU would pair very well with an entry-level Max-Q GPU like the GTX 1650 Max-Q. OEMs like Asus and Razer have already been investing in such Ultrabook-Gaming hybrid laptops.

Ultrabook-gaming hybrid. The Zenbook 15 is one of the very few laptops equipped with an Intel U-series CPU and a GTX 1650 Max-Q GPU for an impressive level of gaming performance relative to the compact chassis size. It strikes an excellent balance between the portability and long runtimes of a traditional Ultrabook while offering enough GPU power to play the latest games at 1080p. ScreenPad 2.0 looks crisper and feels smoother than before, but its associated price premium remains a tough sell.

77% Lenovo IdeaPad L340 Gaming laptop review: Stiff ClickPad impacts gaming fun

The low price is the biggest plus. Lenovo has polished the chassis of the V155 a bit and put cheap, but also game-ready hardware into the 15-inch case. The MSI GE75 9SG and its Core i9-9880H CPU is faster than the Core i9-9980HK

That embarrassing realization when the Core i9-9880H has outperformed every Core i9-9980HK laptop thus far

The slowest laptop with the Core i9-9980HK is the Dell XPS 15 7590 which the Core i9-9880H can outperform by as much 25 percent. Does a laptop with both the Core i7-1065G7 Iris Plus and GeForce MX250 make sense for gaming? We give our early thoughts

You'll probably want to stick to the GeForce MX150/MX250 over the Iris Plus if you want to game. Though they may be close on paper, Nvidia GPUs benefit greatly from having more frequent driver updates and a dedicated pool of resources and they are just simply more reliable and predictable in their performances. Intel is going to have to step it up in terms of driver support if it wants to compete against the low-power Radeon Vega RX series or the GeForce MX series.
