MSI updates its Alpha gaming laptops with AMD Ryzen 4000-H APUs and RX 5600M dGPUs, adds 17-inch model
The budget-oriented Alpha gaming laptops from MSI are getting upgraded with AMD’s Ryzen 4000-H Renoir APUs. MSI is also expanding the lineup with a 17-inch variant, and the configurations will still only include all-AMD specs.
MSI’s new Alpha 15 A4DE/A4DEK and 17 A4DE/A4DEK laptops can be equipped with up to an AMD Ryzen 7 4800H APU coupled with up to 64 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM and up to 4 TB of NVMe SSD storage via 2x M.2 slots. The dGPU option has also been upgraded to the mid-range Radeon RX 5600M model with 6 GB of GDDR6 VRAM.
Some other improved specs include five times bigger 2-Watt stereo Giant Speakers amplified by the Nahimic 3 Audio Enhance codec, plus a redesigned Cooler Boost 5 cooling system with 7 heat pipes that ensure maximum airflow for an uninterrupted gaming experience.
The list of standard features also includes:
- 15.6-inch or 17.3-inch IPS LCD screens with 144 Hz refresh rate and AMD FreeSync Premium support
- SteelSeries backlit keyboards (per-key RGB keyboard only on the A4DEK models)
- Wi-Fi 6 + Bluetooth 5.0 + GbE NIC
- 720p webcam compatible with Windows Hello
- Port selection: 1x USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 and 3x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, Mini DisplayPort 1.2 + HDMI 2.0b video outputs, audio jack
- SD card reader
- 65 Wh battery
- Total weight: 2.4 Kg (5.3 lbs) - 15-inch model / 2.6 Kg (5.73 lbs) - 17-inch model
No word on prices and availability for the time being, but, if previous all-AMD models are any indication, the 15-inch Ryzen 7 4800H models should be priced under $1,000.
