We take a glimpse of what Intel's next generation of integrated graphics can do and it's pretty good for a 10 nm non-discrete solution. Now, Intel will have to price it just right to make it worth the purchase over existing Ryzen or GeForce MX-powered laptops that offer similar graphics performance.

We recently had the chance to benchmark the integrated Intel Xe G7 GPU that will launch with the 11th gen Tiger Lake-U processor series. Although our test unit was an Intel developer kit with preliminary drivers that may not be perfect representations of retail models, the data should still give us a ballpark figure of what to expect especially since retail Tiger Lake laptops are scheduled to launch as soon as this October.

Our graphs below compare the integrated Intel Xe G7 to the Ryzen 7 4800U Radeon RX Vega 8 and several other laptops equipped with the Ice Lake Iris Plus G7, GeForce MX150, MX250, or MX350. On average, users can expect the new Intel GPU to trade blows against the GeForce MX250 and Radeon RX Vega 8 as found on the latest Ryzen U-series CPUs when running real-world games. Results are both impressive and disappointing; impressive because Intel can offer similar performance with a larger 10 nm fabrication process and disappointing because it has taken them more than half a year just to be on equal footing with the 7 nm Zen 2 U-series.

The good news is that laptops with 11th gen Tiger Lake will launch by the dozen to be easy to find for interested buyers whereas the selection of AMD-powered alternatives continues to be meager. Getting GeForce MX-like graphics from integrated solutions will make popular games like Rocket League, DOTA 2, Overwatch, and even GTA V more than playable on the upcoming generation of Ultrabooks.

We will be slowly populating our benchmark list over time as we test the Intel Xe G7 further.
