AMD is close to releasing its Zen 3 desktop CPUs and we should also see an RDNA2 Navi2x announcement tied to the Ryzen 4000 “Vermeer” processor launch some time in the next few months. The rumor mill for the Zen 3 CPUs seems to have slowed down considerably as of late, since the focus suddenly shifted to the upcoming Nvidia versus AMD battle in the gaming GPU market. We still get some new Zen 3 bits and pieces of info here and there, and the latest relevant details now come via Yuri Bubliy, the creator of the popular CTR overclocking software for the existing Ryzen 3000 desktop CPUs.
Since Yuri is an expert in overclocking, the new Zen 3 details are mostly tied to this aspect and are expected to be included in an updated CTR overclocker. The first new Zen 3 feature he touches upon is the Curve Optimizer. This will allow owners of the new Ryzen 4000 desktop CPUs to configure the boost frequencies for the first time. As a bonus, each core’s frequency will be configurable without any restrictions. He also mentions that the new overclcoking info can be found in the AGESA 1.0.8.1. BIOS and all these new features will be available for B550, X570, sTRX40 and sTRX80 motherboards.
Another new feature coming with the Zen 3 CPUs is the Infinity Fabric dividers that allow users to set the memory controller frequency slightly higher in mixed mode. Yuri states that he is not sure how this is supposed to work exactly, but he has seen several mentions of this feature in the latest AGESA BIOS.
Unrelated to frequencies, Yuri is also excited to let us know that the upcoming Ryzen 4000 desktop CPUs will include 10-core / 20-thread models. We have heard some previous rumors on this topic, and it looks like we now have confirmation that AMD will implement 8 cores per CCX, reserving possibility to deactivate a set number of cores for different SKUs. If this is the case, we could be seeing 10 cores on the Ryzen 7 4700/4800 models.
