The latest Coreboot update has provided concrete details about the power limits of Intel's 12 generation laptop processors. While some of the company's Alder Lake processors will have a 45 W TDP, they will be able to consume up to 215 W in the short term. Alder Lake should offer Tiger Lake levels of efficiency, though.

Chuwi has released initial details and pictures of its latest laptop, the LarkBook X. The device has a 2K and 16:10 display, along with a 10 mm thick chassis. A 6 W processor will probably hold the LarkBook X back, though.

Cable Matters' latest USB type-C dongle is rated to connect an up-to-Thunderbolt 4/USB4 PC to an 8K monitor via HDMI 2.1. It has 2 variants: one with a DisplayPort and an 8K-capable HDMI port, and another with dual HDMIs for 1 8K monitor or 2 at 4K. Kioxia has introduced new EXCERIA-line M.2 2280 SSDs for desktops or laptops. The OEM asserts that the new PRO variant is for enthusiasts, whereas the G2 is more for the mainstream, mainly as they support PCIe Gen 4 and Gen 3 respectively. The 2 new drives also feature the proprietary "BiCS" flash memory and up to 2TB capacities.

Micron and Samsung are preparing to begin production for the first LPDDR5X modules, and the first consumer products to integrate this technology should launch in 2H2022. LPDDR5X provides higher speeds reaching 8533 MT/s and also raises the available bandwidth to 68.26 GB/s.

Things are looking up for Intel, at least on the IFS side. Qualcomm is really impressed with the upcoming 20A (2 nm) tech that will go online in 2024, and is now planning to move part of its SoC production on Intel's cutting edge nodes that will integrate new features like GAAFET (RibbonFET) and PowerVIA.
