Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 14ITL05 in review: Quiet, enduring 14-inch notebook
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 14ITL05 belongs to the compact 14-inch notebooks. The model in front of us is already the fourth representative of the Yoga Slim 7 14 series that has to face a Notebookcheck test. After two AMD Renoir models and an Intel Ice Lake model including a dedicated GeForce MX350 GPU, we now have an Intel Tiger Lake variant. The competitors include devices like the Honor Magicbook 14, the HP 14s and the Dell Inspiron 13 5301.
Since we have already tested several Yoga models, we will not go further into the case, the equipment, the input devices and the speakers in this review. The corresponding information can be found in the Review of the Yoga Slim 7 14ARE05 (Ryzen 7 4800U).

This means that the measured response time is worse than the average of all tested devices (33.7 ms). |
Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)
Screen flickering / PWM detected | 143 Hz | ≤ 10 % brightness setting | |
The display backlight flickers at 143 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) Flickering detected at a brightness setting of 10 % and below. There should be no flickering or PWM above this brightness setting. The frequency of 143 Hz is very low, so the flickering may cause eyestrain and headaches after extended use. In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 17900 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 3846000) Hz was measured. |
The screen shows a very decent color reproduction in its state of delivery. The colors deviate slightly from the target, but this is not noticeable. The display does not suffer from a blue cast. A calibration provides improvements. The color deviation is reduced and the grayscale levels are displayed more balanced. The screen cannot reproduce the AdobeRGB (68%) and DCI-P3 (39%) color spaces, but the sRGB color space is reproduced at 97%.
The viewing-angle stable IPS panel can be read from any position. It is quite possible to read the screen outdoors.
Performance - Enough for Office and Internet
Lenovo's Yoga Slim 7 14ITL05 is a 14-inch notebook that offers enough computing power for office and Internet applications.
Test conditions
It is possible to switch between the notebook's three energy profiles ("Smart Cooling", "High Performance", "Battery Saving Mode") via the key combination "Fn" + "Q". The test was performed with the default "Smart Cooling" profile activated. Additionally, some benchmarks were run with the profile "High Performance". The results can be found in the comparison tables.
Intelligent Cooling | High Power | Battery Saving Mode | |
---|---|---|---|
Power Limit 1 | 25 Watt | 40 Watt | 12 Watt |
Power Limit 2 | 36 Watt | 60 Watt | 20 Watt |
Processor
The Core i5-1135G7-Quad-core processor (Tiger Lake) works with a base clock of 2.4 GHz. An increase to 3.8 GHz (all cores) up to 4.2 GHz (one core) is possible via Turbo. Hyperthreading (two threads per core) is supported. The multi-thread test of the Cinebench R15 benchmark is run with 3.8 GHz, the single-thread test with 1.7 to 4.2 GHz. The clock rates are significantly lower in battery mode.
We check whether the CPU Turbo is used permanently in mains operation by running the multi-thread test of the Cinebench R15 benchmark in a loop for at least 30 minutes. The Turbo operates at a high level for about 90 seconds, after which the clock fluctuates strongly. The profile "High Performance" generally lets the clock increase a bit.

System performance
The nimble and smoothly running system did not cause any problems. The CPU delivers enough performance for office and Internet applications. In addition, there are good PCMark results. The working memory (8 GB, DDR4-3200, onboard) runs in dual-channel mode. An expansion of the memory is not possible.
Lenovo "only" equips the Yoga with DDR4-3200 working memory and not with faster LPDDR4X-4266 memory. Thus, some performance remains untapped. A comparison (see the following table) with the memory transfer rates of the LPDDR4X-4266 memory-equipped Dell Inspiron 13 5301 clarifies the difference.

Graphics card
Intel's Iris-Xe-Graphics-G7-80EU-GPU supports DirectX 12 and reaches an operating clock of up to 1300 MHz, which can also be maintained permanently (see Witcher 3 test). The 3DMark results are slightly below the average we have determined so far for the graphics core installed here. The Dell Inspiron 13 equipped with the same GPU scores much better thanks to the faster LPDDR4X-4266 working memory. The "High Performance" profile does not affect the graphics performance.

Gaming performance
The installed hardware can render many games smoothly at low resolutions and low quality settings. Titles with moderate hardware requirements are too demanding. A clear picture in terms of frame rates cannot be observed. Depending on the game, the rates are above or below the Iris Xe Graphics G7-80EU average.

Emissions & Energy - Lenovo laptop with excellent battery runtimes
Noise emissions
The Yoga produces little to no noise over the entire load range. In everyday use (office, Internet), the two fans often stand still and silence reigns. They hardly rev up under load. The maximum sound pressure levels are 29 dB(A) (stress test) and 30.2 dB(A) (Witcher 3 test). Thus, the Slim 7 clearly leaves its rivals behind.

Temperature
The case temperatures remain within a green field in everyday use (office, Internet). The laptop only heats up to a small extent during higher hardware load. The rivals are on par with the Lenovo computer.
At the beginning of the stress test (Prime95 and FurMark run for at least one hour), the CPU and GPU run at 2.1 to 3.3 GHz and 1,300 MHz, respectively, for a few seconds. In the further course of the test, the clock rates drop to 800 to 1,400 MHz and 600 MHz, respectively. The stress test represents an extreme scenario. We use this test to check whether the system runs stably under full load.
(±) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 40 °C / 104 F, compared to the average of 34.2 °C / 94 F, ranging from 21.2 to 62.5 °C for the class Office.
(±) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 43.3 °C / 110 F, compared to the average of 36.7 °C / 98 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 26.1 °C / 79 F, compared to the device average of 29.5 °C / 85 F.
(+) The palmrests and touchpad are cooler than skin temperature with a maximum of 29.8 °C / 85.6 F and are therefore cool to the touch.
(-) The average temperature of the palmrest area of similar devices was 27.7 °C / 81.9 F (-2.1 °C / -3.7 F).

Energy consumption
The notebook's power consumption is on a normal level for the hardware installed here. The power consumption decreases during the stress test because the CPU and GPU clocks drop. During the Witcher 3 test, the power consumption is very constant. Only in standby (8 watts) and hibernation (1.7 watts) does the laptop consume an unusually high amount of energy. We suspect a configuration and/or driver problem in our test device. The rated power of the included USB-C power adapter is 65 watts.

Pros
Cons
Verdict - Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 14ITL05 - a chic, slim, enduring 14-incher
A low weight, low emission rates and practical battery runtimes of almost 12 hours make the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 14ITL05 a quiet mobile companion. The built-in Core i5-1135G7 processor handles office and Internet applications without problems.
Lenovo has put together a well-rounded package with the Yoga Slim 7 14ITL05.
Since the working memory (8 GB, dual-channel mode) of the 14-incher cannot be swapped/expanded, a Yoga model with 16 GB working memory is recommended for a certain future-proofing.
The screen (FHD, IPS) scores with a matte surface, stable viewing angles, decent color reproduction and good color space coverage. Brightness and contrast fulfill the respective requirements. In addition, the keyboard (backlit) is good overall.
The two USB-C ports (Thunderbolt 4/USB 4; Power Delivery, Displayport) allow connecting extensive docking solutions or an external GPU. Furthermore, the notebook is powered via USB-C. The included power adapter (65 watts) can be plugged into both USB-C ports.
An alternative to the Yoga would be the HP 14s. It is inferior to Lenovo's laptop in almost all aspects, but it costs less money and is the only notebook in our comparison field with an expandable working memory.
Price and availability
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 14ITL05 (Core i5-1135G7, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD) is available for review at Amazon.de or Cyberport at prices of €739 (~$860) and €699 (~$814) respectively. Notebooksbilliger.de demands €829 (~$966) for the device.
