The ROG Swift PG27UQ from Asus packs in almost everything anyone could want in a monitor: 4K, HDR, G-Sync, and a 144 Hz refresh rate. Asus will also sell the monitor pre-calibrated to professional-grade standards with excellent color accuracy and color space coverage. However, the ROG Swift PG27UQ will chew through wallets at USD $2,000.

With the announcement of Nvidia's GeForce Partner Program, Asus thought it would be wise to differentiate its GPU brands into ROG (for Nvidia) and Arez (for AMD). Since the GPP was killed in its infancy, speculators were quick to proclaim that the Arez brand will cease to exist as well. Asus retorted promptly, dismissing any greatly exaggerated rumors.

The Acer Predator Helios 300 Special Edition is a sleek limited-edition variant of the standard Helios 300. A new 144 Hz IPS display has been used, and the chassis uses an unusual all-white with gold trim design. Acer plans to discontinue this variant within a few months of sales starting.

A new variant of the GeForce GTX 1050 GPU has been spotted on the Nvidia website. The latest addition to the GTX 1050 series is the GeForce GTX 1050 (3 GB). The GeForce 10 series was released in 2016, and the GTX 1050 GPU originally came in the forms of a 2 GB base model and a 4 GB Ti model.

The market for premium laptops has been growing in recent years, with thin and powerful 15-inch laptops like the Dell XPS 15 or Apple MacBook Pro 15 as one of the growth-segments. Reason enough for HP to release the new EliteBook 1050 G1, which offers a hexa-core CPU and the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 in a thin 15-inch chassis.

HP has refreshed its Envy All-in-One and Envy Tower desktop offerings with Intel 8th generation processors and NVIDIA GTX 1050 graphics. The Envy AiO is now available in 27-inch and 34-inch ultra-wide screen options and has Amazon Alexa integrated. The Envy Tower now sports a new chassis design and also gets an Intel 8th generation CPU upgrade and GPU options up to the GTX 1080.

The GTX 1170 GPU is supposed to be powered by the same GT104 Turing 12 nm chip as GTX 1180, but it will come with lower specs that include ~1.5 GHz base clocks (1.8 GHz boost clocks), reduced CUDA core and TMU count, and slower GDDR6 VRAM. This means that the TDP could go as low as 140 W, which can make it a good target for crypto miners.

Nvidia has earned revenue of US$3.21 billion for the first quarter of the fiscal year for 2019. The result for the first quarter in 2018 was US$1.94 billion, which means the GPU maker has enjoyed a huge year-over-year growth of 66%. It's strange to be celebrating a two-year old product being "close" to its suggested retail price, but here we are. Nvidia is proudly reminding all its followers on Facebook that its GTX 10 graphics cards are now in stock at more reasonable prices for gamers. The GTX 1080 and GTX 1060 can be purchased directly from Nvidia for $550 USD and $250 USD, respectively. The news comes within days of existing rumors of the impending GTX 1180.

American computer manufacturer System76 has offered the company’s updated Oryx Pro for pre-order. For US$1,599, the buyer would receive a 15.6-inch, Ubuntu-based laptop sporting an i7-8750H processor, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU, 8 GB RAM, and a 250 GB M.2 SSD. The official System76 website offers a generous amount of configurations for the Oryx Pro update.

An entry for the upcoming Nvidia GeForce GTX 1180 graphics card has been made in TechPowerUp’s GPU database. Notebookcheck already reported on rumors surrounding the next-gen GPU and the data that has now surfaced online seems to support some of the expected specifications, including 3584 shading units and a 256-bit memory bus.

Nvidia has decided to cancel the controversial GeForce Partner Program (GPP). A blog post by John Teeple, the person responsible for Nvidia’s GeForce Partner Marketing, has the very unambiguous title “Pulling the Plug on GPP, Leaning into GeForce.” The program has attracted a considerable amount of criticism since its introduction barely two months ago.

Responding to a question on Twitter, Frank Azor bluntly stated that the likelihood of a dedicated GPU making its way into Dell's XPS 13 2-in-1 is slim to none. "Don't hold your breath," said Azor, effectively squashing any hope of a variant of the convertible with a dGPU. However, is that such a bad thing?

An official Gigabyte UK representative confirmed that the mobility version of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 11xx series should arrive towards the end of the year. This pretty much confirms that the desktop versions are slated to be released this summer, as the mobility solutions usually get released a few months later.

Thanks to TSMC's new stacked wafer manufacturing process, future CPUs and GPUs could double the performance just by integrating dies with two wafers. For now, only two wafers can be stacked one on top of the other, but in the future, dies could include multiple wafers and get a vertical design, instead of a horizontal one. The only problem is current dual-wafer designs have low yields for manufacturing processes under 16 nm, but TSMC is working to improve that.

By pulling the Inspiron Gaming notebooks away from the Inspiron series, Dell can now offer more options and sizes to better cater to budget-mainstream gamers who may not want to spend an arm and a leg on a hulking Alienware. The new Dell Gaming G series competes directly against the HP Pavilion Gaming series where the GTX 1050 and GTX 1060 Max-Q are common finds. No word yet on if future SKUs would also carry AMD options.

Samsung recently divulged the name "Max-P" to describe the GTX 1060 GPU in its upcoming Odyssey Z gaming laptop before quietly removing the word. However, we can confirm that "Max-P" is simply a standard GPU without the Max-Q designation. The GTX 1050, 1050 Ti, 1060, 1070, and 1080 found on most gaming laptops are all technically "Max-P" graphics cards so long as they are not Max-Q GPUs.

The graphics card demand drop is certainly a serious profitability issue for the Taiwanese suppliers, but this also means that gamers can now get the graphics cards they need for prices close to the original MSRP. Crypto miners are waiting to see if Bitmain's Ethereum ASICs are indeed worth it over GPU cards, however, if the upcoming GTX 11xx and AMD Navi cards would prove even better, we might see the price inflation scenario all over again.

According to Dell, Kaby Lake-G caters better to casual mainstream gamers while the Alienware brand will stick to hardcore gamers and enthusiasts with the familiar Intel H-series and Nvidia GTX GPUs. The Intel-AMD processors will instead be used for Dell's mainstream families like the XPS line to provide GTX 1050-level graphics.

A newly discovered hardware exploit allows for the execution of arbitrary code on devices powered by Nvidia's Tegra processors. The next gen Geforce GTX 1180 GPUs from Nvidia could end up 50% faster than the GTX 1080, based on extrapolated data from the Volta architecture. Previously rumored to be released in July this year, the GTX 1180 might get a US$700 MSRP, but this could lead to more availability issues caused by cryptominers.

Taiwanese computer manufacturer Asus has announced a rebranding for the AMD graphics cards that were previously part of the Republic of Gamers (ROG) line-up. The new name for the series is AREZ, which derives from Ares, the Greek god of war. The new AREZ-branded cards are expected to be available from May onwards.

Nvidia's voluntary-but-shady program that puts financial preferences for its members over non-members has turned away two of the largest OEMs in the world due to what the source claims to be "likely illegal" practices. The chipmaker has yet to provide any direct comments surrounding the details of its GeForce Partner Program.
