Apple's share of the global premium smartphone market gets even bigger in the first quarter of 2022

Apple enjoyed the biggest share of the premium smartphone market worldwide in the first quarter of 2021 (1Q2021), and was not even slightly shaken from this lead in 1Q2022, with even more of a share at 62%. It was a surprisingly good quarter for the sector overall, with major wins such as the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, even though it shrank by 8% year-on-year (YoY).

Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing has now reported early sales numbers of Xiaomi's new Redmi Note 11T Pro phones in China. The phones seem to have sold rather well, albeit failing to match up to numbers from the more premium Redmi K50 and Xiaomi 12 series.

Samsung may need to reduce new smartphone production by 30 million units in 2022

Samsung had reportedly planned to have as much as 310 million smartphones made in 2022. However, according to the latest word from production insiders, that figure is now down to as little as 280 million. The reduction in orders, linked to the ongoing war in Ukraine and a reduction in demand worldwide, is expected to hit the OEM's suppliers hard in 2022.
