TCL now asserts that it has grabbed the biggest slice of the 98-inch TV market for the first 3 quarters of 2022 (1-3Q2022) worldwide. This achievement apparently involved attaining the greatest sales volumes for screens of this size in individual countries such as France and Pakistan.
The company attributes its success in this niche to its new XL Collection flagship, the Google TV-powered 98C735. The massive 120Hz QLED panel's "awe-inspiring" dimensions are touted to display high-action content such as live sport at its "native speed" and in "100 percent+ color volume".
TCL is confident that this new status as the leader in this segment is an indication of its ability to "thrive" in the TV market. It has to be said that there are not many other TVs of that size out there. Then again, Redmi is said to have done well from its Max 98 model thanks to attractive flash-sale prices; then again, it is only available in China.
Nevertheless, TCL's apparent success might be more evidence that consumers want their TVs bigger and bigger by the year, despite their price: the 98C735, for example, is priced at €6,999.99 (~US$7,252) in Europe at present.
