There aren’t too many manufacturers offering 98-inch smart televisions for around US$3,000 at the moment, so Xiaomi is spoiling its fans in China with the 98-inch Redmi Smart TV Max. Every time the giant set is offered up in a flash sale it sells out within hours…or even minutes. But there has been no sign of the Redmi Max 98 coming to other key Xiaomi markets, such as India and Europe, so it seems it will be just shoppers in China that get to enjoy the Redmi device’s features.
The 98-inch Redmi Smart TV Max offers 4K HDR and 85% coverage of NTSC while also treating viewers to the availability of MEMC technology that makes fast-moving images smoother and easier to watch. The smartness of the Redmi Max 98 is provided by a quad-core processor, 4 GB RAM, and 64 GB flash storage, and there is PatchWall software onboard to ease the user experience and provide increased device interconnectivity. Stereo surround sound with Dolby Audio and DTS-HD audio dual decoding ensure that an immersive sound experience can be offered by the massive TV.
It’s not surprising that Xiaomi hasn’t brought the Redmi Max 98 to global markets outside of China yet as the construction and shipping of such a behemoth must be a costly affair and would be prohibitive in certain regions. However, with the Chinese OEM claiming to be supporting more home-grown creation of its products, especially in countries like India, it can be expected that the 98-inch Redmi Smart TV Max may yet make an appearance elsewhere. Those interested in snapping up the smart TV can place a 2,000-yuan (US$292) deposit for the set now and pay the remaining balance by September 9.
