Redmi Max 86 and Redmi Max 98 smart TVs get super-sized price cuts
The giant Redmi Max 98 smart TV is currently being sold in China for a startling price of just 17,999 yuan (US$2,785). The 98-inch television set was originally launched at a price of 19,999 yuan (US$3,094), so would-be buyers are getting a generous 2,000 yuan (US$309) discount. It’s a smart move by Xiaomi, as the market for televisions of this size is limited and even though the Redmi Max 98 has its selling points, it is over a year old now.
Xiaomi has also turned back the price tag of the Redmi Max 86 smart TV to its launch price of 7,999 yuan (US$1,237). The Chinese OEM raised the price for the 86-inch set not long after its release to 9,999 yuan (US$1,547), apparently due to supply issues with the parts required for the big TV. However, as supply has clearly improved, Xiaomi can afford to offer the Redmi Max 86 at an almost must-buy price.
Both the Redmi Max 98 and Redmi Max 86 have 4K panels and support HDMI connections (v2.1 for the Redmi Max 86). The slightly smaller TV is arguably the more attractive purchase, as it has a higher refresh rate as mentioned above, more-powerful speakers (2x 12.5 W vs. 2x 8 W), and it has a faster but older processor (Cortex A73 vs. Cortex A55). The giant Redmi Max smart televisions have been a great sales success for Xiaomi since their introduction.
