Rumor | Verizon's next streaming box will double as a soundbar
The STI625x is a streaming device that has appeared on the databases of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Wi-Fi Alliance ahead of its launch. This is a fairly normal occurrence - however, it seems this product is far from the average TV box. According to the leaker Android TV Guide, it will be marketed by Verizon as an audio solution as well.
The model number has become linked to the carrier due to the product name mentioned by the Wi-Fi Alliance in the course of approving it as a dual-band device. It is a "set-top box" or "media extender" called the Stream TV Soundbar.
This, of course, paints it as a successor to Verizon's current own-brand box, with a potentially interesting dual use-case. It seems the company has engaged the ODM Askey (part of the Asus family) to make the upcoming streaming device.
Therefore, it looks like Verizon might list a new product that might help customers augment their big screen in more ways than one soon. Then again, its new leaks do nothing to hint at its audio specs, beyond a brief reference to DTS in the course of the FCC filing. However, they do reveal that this "Stream TV Soundbar" will run the latest Android TV 11 UI on its launch.
