Samsung has refreshed the ViewFinity S8 series with the ViewFinity S8UT, a monitor that adds Thunderbolt 4 connectivity. Theoretically, it is now possible to daisy chain a second 4K monitor without needing a second video output. The ViewFinity S8UT comes in a single size for now, unlike the original ViewFinity S8 series.

In June, Samsung unveiled the ViewFinity S8, or S80PB as Samsung also referred to the monitor series. Available in 27-inch and 32-inch sizes, the pair offered 4K resolutions, 60 Hz refresh rates, PANTONE validation and USB Type-C connectivity that supports 90 W charging via USB Power Delivery. Now, Samsung has announced the ViewFinity S8UT, which seemingly differs from its predecessors in only one area.

According to Samsung, the ViewFinity S8UT operates at 3,840 x 2,160 pixels with a 60 Hz refresh rate, 5 ms response times and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio. Additionally, the monitor peaks at 350 nits and lacks the VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification of its predecessor. Still, Samsung has integrated an ambient light sensor that can automatically adjust the monitor’s brightness based on ambient light conditions.

The ViewFinity S8UT brings Thunderbolt 4 connectivity to the ViewFinity S8 series though, which retains the 90 W fast charging capabilities of its predecessor and adds a secondary port that delivers 15 W to a connected device. However, the second Thunderbolt 4 port provides the ViewFinity S8UT with greater flexibility than the S80PB. Namely, the former can power a laptop and Thunderbolt accessories like a secondary 4K monitor.

Moreover, the ViewFinity S8UT contains Ethernet, an HDMI port and a triple USB 3.0 Type-A hub. Samsung has included stereo speakers too, as well as a height and pivot adjustable stand. Samsung has not shared pricing details yet, although we imagine it will cost about as much as the ViewFinity S80PB, which retails for €499 in the Eurozone.
