Latest AMD AGESA 1.0.0.4 update improves all-core boost and boot times for Ryzen 3000 processors

The latest AGESA 1.0.0.4 microcode update for AMD Ryzen 3000 processors seems to enhance all-core boost clocks and improve boot times, according to preliminary test results. This update is in beta and will soon be seeded for all compatible Ryzen motherboards, but it does not yet contain all the improvements that are touted to be available in this microcode release.

AMD is slowly chipping away at Intel's market share, but the CPU giant seems unwavered. (Source: Digital Trend)

New reports show increased AMD market shares in Europe, Intel puts on a brave face and shows record earnings in Q3 2019

Intel might think it can get away with an optimistic Q3 2019 earnings report, but AMD's rising market shares paint a different picture. Intel's ongoing CPU shortages and the difficulties encountered with the 10 nm jump are allowing AMD to relentlessly accrue market shares in the desktop, laptop and server markets.

The AMD Ryzen 9 3950X can give tough competition to Intel's HEDT lineup. (Source: HardZone)

AMD Ryzen 9 3950X takes on the Intel Core i9-9980XE at stock settings in Cinebench R20, offers potentially higher performance per dollar than even the Core i9-10980XE

New benchmark scores of the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X seem to indicate that AMD's upcoming flagship CPU can offer performance equivalent to Intel's HEDT chips such as the Core i9-9980XE and the Core i9-10980XE while beating them in terms of performance per dollar. The Ryzen 9 3950X was benchmarked using Cinebench R20 at stock settings.

AMD's Matisse beasts are far from toothless as Ryzen 3000 helps to gnaw at Intel's Steam survey share

September’s Steam Hardware and Software Survey has seemingly delivered more good news for AMD. The survey has measured data in regard to PC processor usage by manufacturer, which yet again has been thoroughly dominated by Intel. However, the red team has enjoyed another month of considerable growth, which could be down to its Ryzen 3000 generation of chips.

Most OEMs treat AMD CPUs like second-class citizens when it comes to laptops. Now is the time for change

Opinion | Most OEMs treat AMD CPUs like second-class citizens when it comes to laptops. Now is the time for change

Microsoft had the cojones to put both AMD and Intel on its flagship Surface series. In contrast, other OEMs offer AMD options only for their lower-end to mid-range product families. The Ryzen 5 3500U and Ryzen 7 3700U are comparable enough to the Core i7-8565U and even Core i7-1065G7 to be treated on equal ground on flagship laptops.

Latest benchmark scores show AMD's 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X is shaping up to be a blue-ribbon gaming chip

Some new Geekbench scores for AMD’s Ryzen 9 3950X have been unearthed and unsurprisingly the 16-core chip has performed admirably in the multi-core tests. Two separate benchmarks have been discovered, with AMD’s Zen 2 processor appearing on a Prime X570-P motherboard from Asus and a B450 Aorus Pro Wi-Fi board from Gigabyte.

Next-next-gen Zen 5 architecture is already in development, confirms AMD

With some Zen 2-based processors still in the pipeline, AMD confirmed that the design of the Zen 3 architecture is complete and the testing/manufacturing stages should soon follow. Even more, Zen 4 and Zen 5 are both being designed already and — if everything goes according to plan — the latter is set to arrive in 2022.

It looks like there is not much room to squeeze in the 3750X between the 3700X and the 3800X models, not on the retail market, at least. (Source: AMD)

AMD accidentally leaks the Ryzen 7 3750X CPU

Since the 3700X and 3800X 8-core CPUs are already available, the launch of the 3750X for retail channels might not happen at all. The specs would have to be too similar to the 3800X and a price point between US$330 and US$400 would not really be that justified. AMD may consider launching the 3750X model for OEMs, however.

The Core i9-9900KS scores up to 12% lower in 3DMark than the Ryzen 9 3900X; 9% less than the Ryzen 7 3700X too

Launched at Computex 2019, the Core i9-9900KS is a 5 GHz all-core variant of the Core i9-9900K that also has a 4 GHz base clock. Sounds great for gamers, right? Well, a recent 3DMark Fire Strike posting suggests otherwise, with the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X and Ryzen 7 3700X enjoying a healthy lead over the upcoming Coffee Lake chip. Clearly, clock speed isn't everything.
